Silver Maltese or Iron Cross Pin 1886

Silver Maltese or Iron Cross Pin 1886

This is a very interesting pin. I have done a good bit of research on it and, thanks to a customer, this is what I believe to be the real deal. It is a Maltese or an iron cross. It has the initials "H.I.N" on the front. On the back it has the word "SEAL" and the date 1886. This pin is a membership pin for the International Order of King's Daughters and Sons. It is a service organization that formed in 1886 in New York City. It used to be a pretty big organization, but many of it's members have passed away and many of the members are in the 70 plus age group. The organization continues today because of the work the early leaders did in establishing hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. The IHN stands for "In His Name." This is a non-secular, religious organization and the IHN refers to Jesus Christ. This pin is worn by all members. They may be viewed on their website. This particular pin came from an estate of someone who had it pre-1950. I still do not know what "SEAL" stands for.
