First Edition "The Two Pilgrims" Leo Tolstoy

A rare find indeed is this first English edition of Tolstoi's short story, "The Two Pilgrims". Translated by Nathan Haskell Dole. Thomas Y. Crowell: New York, (1887). First Separate Edition in English. Octavo. Contains 39pp., white leather, with floral gilt decorations on covers, with some minor wear on the extremities. The spine on this book is unbroken. This short story, (Russian title is "Dva Starika", 1886), first appeared in IVAN ILYITCH AND OTHER STORIES, translated by Dole and published in [1887] by T. Y. Crowell. [Line, "A Bibliography of Russian Literature in English Translation to 1900," see items 13 & 103]. The final page is an advertisement from Thomas Crowell with a listing of daintily bound volumes, for those desiring inexpensive booklets of real value for gift purposes. Do not let this one slip away, such a wonderful addition to any collection!
