Capodimonte Figure of Josephine by B. Merli

Societa Ceramica Richard 1841929

Capodimonte Figure of Josephine by B. Merli

On offer is a figure of the beautiful Josephine, the love of Napoleon Bonaparte, standing on a gilded plinth, signed B. Merli. Dressed in a seductive pink flowing gown with a royal red robe and green accents, Josephine also wears green ribbons in her lovely locks. Josephine's hair is absolutely wonderful, pulled off her face and falling in ringlets that are so delicate they look like little corkscrews. She is superbly hand painted with lovely lifelike features. I am unsure of the date of this piece, produced by Societa Ceramica Richard in Milan, Italy sometime after 1850. Societa Richard is also known as Ginori, as well as Capodimonte, is located in Milan, Italy and inherited many of molds of the great Capo Di Monte factory of the 18th Century. Societa Ceramica Richard has been in business since 1735. This figurine stands 11" tall on a gilded plinth that measures 2.5" square. Josephine is in absolutely mint condition.
