1861 Mourning Revolving Locket of Prince Albert

Rare Mourning Revolving locket of Prince Albert. His picture was cut down for this brooch from a carte-de visite by Mayall and placed in the locket as a mourning item at the time of his death from typhoid. Queen Victoria was distraught, and the nation imitated her grief by creating homage to Albert in all sorts of mourning pieces. This is one of them - rare because the original mourning pieces were discarded later on; only a few originals like this survived. This rare example measures 2' x 2.5' inches.
