1780 FRENCH WATCH STAND FIGURE OF CHRONO TIME

Figural and mechanical French gilt bronze pocket watch stand, shown in Tardy's book on French clocks, dating to 1780.13 3/4inches high.Stands on 3 ornate legs. An openwork tour de force of relief sculpting: An owl perches above a scrolling shell over which the winged Greek god of time, Chrono, reclines, a long sword/sickle in one raised hand. Above him are various wonderful flowers, cherubs and a rooster, amidst foliage and scrolls. A lever moves a star shaped clasp back / forward to hold a round watch securely. These watch stands are extremely rare and the only other one I have seen was regilded and the owner wouldn't dream of selling it.The back-most leg has a small crack. The stick holding the scythe is a replacement, as is possibly the scythe itself. No other damage/losses. The gilding is original and in good condition considering it's age.
