Be sure to clean fallen leaves out of your gutter this fall.

Weekend Project: Cleaning Your Gutters

Here’s another weekend project for an October Saturday. It’s important to pay extra attention to your gutters in autumn because as the leaves fall from the trees, they’ll accumulate in your gutters. If you don’t clean them out, next time it rains, the gutter will be unable to catch and carry away water. So check out this article about gutter maintenance. It contains step-by-step advice on how to clean out your gutters, clean out your downspout, and patch any places where the gutter’s broken. Don’t worry—patching a gutter’s not as difficult as it sounds. All you’ll need is sandpaper, fiberglass mesh, and roofing cement. So head outside and get to work—you’ll be glad you did the next time an autumn rainstorm hits your area.

Hate cleaning gutters? Consider investing in a leaf guard so that you won't have to deal with this problem next fall.

Thanks for the tip! The leaf guard sounds like a good investment especially if its hard to get up on your roof. Burlington Vermont HVAC contractors that I work with try to avoid getting up on the roof when possible, lol

Cleaning Gutters

If you are looking for an easy way to clean out your gutters, try using a leaf blower to remove the buildup. However, when doing this, remember that you are high up and could be in awkward positions. Using a machine of this size on a ladder is tricky in its own, but watch for any dust or dirt that could fly at you as well.
