Paint for Resale Appeal

With median home prices expected to hit their first ever drop in the U.S., it's no wonder that blogs, articles, and tips abound on how to sell your home. But with home prices dropping and home sales stalling, the last thing sellers should do is take on remodeling debt in an effort to sell. Instead, look to the tried and true—paint. Nothing spruces up a home like fresh paint. But, as with any great frenzy, the key is to keep it simple. Agents stress the importance of freshening the paint on the exterior to increase curb appeal. Just painting the door and surrounding trim is enough to give visual pop and leave a positive impression on would-be buyers. Choose colors that blend with the neighborhood and aim for neutrals like cream, white, and brown. If possible, put a fresh coat of paint in the entryway and downstairs rooms. Again, the first impression counts. Don't forget the ceilings—and paint them first to avoid splatter on freshly painted walls. Whether you pay a professional or do it yourself, paint is an easy way to boost home appeal. Just keep it neutral and air out before the open house.

Repainting the interior and/or exterior of your home will really help you sell it faster and much closer to the price you are asking.
