New Survey Shows Homeowner Attitudes about Remodeling

The fall 2008 Remodelormove.com Remodeling Sentiment Report, a semi-annual survey of 5,000 U.S. homeowners, reveals "that homeowners who have less home equity or who are living in lower-value homes have put their remodeling projects on hold while homeowners with more financial resources are moving ahead."

Homeowners who decide to remodel now may find this is a good time because new home construction is at low levels and more materials and labor are available for remodeling than several ago, resulting in shorter project schedules and often lower project costs.

Some of the interesting key findings include: "81 percent plan to start their home remodel this year," 65 percent plan "to do some of the work themselves and the top project is a kitchen remodel.

home remodeling

I read somewhere that if you already live in the nicest house on the area, remodeling it wont make the value of it go even higher.. is that true? I am contemplating on remodeling the home but don't want to invest too much in it if the return wont be as great..

Nicest House on the Block

I would say, in general, from everything I read that the statement is fairly accurate. Remodeling the best home on the block will probably bring more personal satisfaction than ROI.

Cheaper to Remodel

I say this as in the Northern VA area, there is so much competition to keep laborers busy that I have seen a drastic reduction in prices for home repairs and remodeling.

Invest in Remodeling

And I have seen contractors reduce price just to keep their workers employed. We have done some major remodeling at a fraction of the cost.
