Putting on a new roof anytime soon? Consider a reflective roofing material.

Energy Star Roof Savings Calculator | Roofing Materials and Cooling Costs

The average home spends over $1000 a year on heating and cooling costs. In these hot summer months, a great deal of heat transfer takes place between the roof and the attic, greatly contributing to those energy costs.

According to Energy Star, reflective roofing products can lower a roof's surface temperature by up to 100F, which can take a load off the home's AC.

To find out how much you can save by installing reflective roofing, try out Energy Star's Roof Savings Calculator.

I played around with the calculator a little bit. It goes deeper than you might think, asking some pretty specific questions about your current roofing material, heating and cooling system, insulation and so on. For anyone contemplating a new roof it's worth the ten minutes to see what you could save on energy costs with a new reflective roof. Keep in mind that some reflective roofing materials qualify for a tax credit.

Would you install a reflective roof on your house?

Great Way To Save Costs

This is a great way to keep the heat down and save on energy costs.

I have been starting to hear more of my clients ask me about reflective roofing and I'm just starting to get into using the material.

It seems great!

@ Mark Cunningham

Mark this stuff is great! Plus it's a huge value add to a company.

Keep in mind that the tax credit is about to expire, having some kind of promotion to help bring awareness about the credit could help through the slow times of the year. Thank you for the great post.
