Downspout Art

Artists do great work when they make the mundane interesting. And so it is with Buster Simpson's downspout planter system pictured here. Not only does the downspout collect rainfall, it also sends that water directly to attached plants. The piece was constructed as part of the "Growing Vine Street" project, a Seattle-based plan to bring more greenery to an urban setting. A major component of the plan is to allow rainfall to "follow the course of a natural watershed," that is, to get that rain to the plants and trees that need it. Simpson's downspout is an elegant solution to the problem.

This is a remarkable idea of adding greenery to an urban area. Every little project like this one really adds to the community. Great Job Mr. Simpson.
