Okay, I know that it appears I'm on a power trip these days—an irresistible pun— but this entry sent by a friend is a perfect solution to the threat of electrocution from corded lawnmowers and hedge trimmers. A newly developed cord has traditional wiring inside, but wraps the set of two insulated wires and single uninsulated ground wire in a polymer shield containing carbon black so that live current will automatically transfer to the ground wire and ground, not to you and your power tool. It should be inexpensive to produce and easy to incorporate in the manufacturing process. Let's hope that means we'll see it on the market soon. Three cheers for ingenuity!
