Spring is the perfect time to inspect door and window screens for tears. You can often repair small tears using a kit from your local hardware store. This will prevent insects from getting into your home, and keep you comfortable on the screened porch.
Always give wood flooring and paneling a chance to acclimate prior to installation by storing it properly on the job for a 5-7 day period.
Here are few things to keep in mind when applying wallpaper: New Walls - Must be thoroughly cured, dry, primed and sized. Previously painted walls - Fill cracks or holes with patching paste, then sand smooth. Spot-prime the patches and size all walls to be papered. Walls with old wallcovering - Remove, patch, sand and clean. Be sure the old adhesive is gone and the walls are completely dry before sizing.
When drilling a hole, such as for hardware in a cabinet, use a back-up board of a wood that is different in color from the wood you are drilling through. By doing this you will know immediately when the drill is all the way through the cabinet wood because the wood chips coming out will turn a different color.
